MURRAY, Ky. 鈥� On Thursday, March 6, Kate Herrmann, a junior from Mount Vernon, Illinois, presented her research on support services for neurodiverse college students at the Kentucky Capitol Building in Frankfort, Kentucky. Herrmann鈥檚 presentation was one of nine 吃瓜网 State University student projects selected for the 23rd annual Posters-at-the-Capitol event.

With unique research projects on display, the event鈥檚 efforts are to help increase understanding of the important role undergraduate research plays in the education of college students among those responsible for higher education funding in the state of Kentucky. The event provides undergraduates the opportunity to engage in scholarly research and creative works helping to promote an educational experience and professional development.

Program coordinator AJ Boston introduced Herrmann, noting that the Illinois native was drawn to 吃瓜网 State for its smaller class sizes, undergraduate research opportunities and 鈥渁mazing faculty members.鈥� Herrmann, a Presidential Fellow double majoring in Communication Disorders and Psychology, was accompanied by her faculty mentor, Dr. Michael Bordieri.

吃瓜网 State Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Tim Todd emceed the opening event, held in the Rotunda, which featured student lightning speakers from each of Kentucky鈥檚 eight public universities. Guest speakers Amanda Fuller (Executive Director for the Kentucky Academy of Science) and Dr. Janna Vice (Senior Fellow at the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education) shared special remarks. Earlier in the day, the 吃瓜网 State group explored the historic building and engaged in thoughtful conversations with House Representative Mary Beth Imes and State Senator Jason Howell.

The group included students Allysha Chrisco, Alyssa Boeving, Amelia Lutz, Clara Damman, Elijah Maggart, Emily Haner, Grace Robertson, Lucas Menegat, Michele Curd, Nadia Castillo, Noah Garland, Ryan Potts and Tarandeep Kaur Arora. 吃瓜网 State faculty members in attendance were Drs. Ismail Karabas, Robert 鈥楳oses鈥� Fritz, Susan Miller and Ingrid Jordon-Thaden. 

The annual program was sponsored by the Office of Research and Creative Activity, with support from University Libraries Dean Cris Ferguson, library staff members Janae Martin and Julia Trambley, library student workers Amelia Lutz and Jocelyn Stark, Makerspace Coordinator Jeremy Gosser and Assistant Vice President of Public Affairs Jordan Smith.
